An Interactive Virtual Webinar with Industry Expert
Art Holcomb
September 19, 9:00am - 1:00pm PacificTime

The Motion Picture.

It started as just another form of entertainment – an extension of the stage play – that took advantage of new technology . . .

In the past 100 years, film-based entertainment and the city that came to represent it, have become the juggernaut of our time, its effects reaching virtually every man, woman, and child in every corner of the globe.

It's impossible to overestimate the influence that Hollywood has had on our species. Compelling stories are what makes you cry at that one movie, laugh at that great joke, choke up at those Budweiser commercials during the Super Bowl. They are everywhere. And, at the very center of it all, are the creators of these stories that make Hollywood possible.

That's us: the writers.

We write because stories infiltrate our being. It's really not about the money and the pleasure – although the money IS nice.

We all remember the movies and TV shows from our childhood, perhaps more than we do the books. We remember the movie we saw on that first date. That TV show that we just couldn't miss. And the Hollywood story is just one of many different ways you can tell a tale. But the styles that Hollywood uses to tell these stories have been some of the most successful and most effective in history.

They present a way of thinking about stories and their effect that can teach a great deal to the writer who is trying to find their voice and technique - and bring into the world the greatest gift a writer can: the story that CAN ONLY COME FROM YOU.

What You Will Learn and Understand:
  • The Four Types of Heroes and how to choose the best one for each new story
  • How to envision and easily build interesting story worlds
  • How to develop characters worth rooting for
  • Ways to create tension-filled conflict
  • How to craft exciting, memorable moments
  • A deep understanding of the "special world" that lies within every Act II
  • The four things you must understand to create a Great Villain
  • Instant ways you can cast your story with compelling characters
  • The key to a log line that actually drives your story forward.
  • The five truths you need to know about your success – or failure as a writer
